You've heard me talk about the PlanetLab Consortium in
previous emails. It now exists, and you can read about
it at

    www.planet-lab.org/consortium/

The reason that I bring it to everyone's attention is
that we need to have academic institutions that are
already connected to PlanetLab (many from the beginning)
sign the official membership agreement. I know it's
going to be a hassle, but it must be signed by someone
with signature authority at your university.

There is no membership fee for academic institutions, but
the agreement does protect both "us" (who provide operational
support) and "you" (who host nodes) by clearly stating that
we all agree to abide by the Acceptable Use Policy. It also
includes IP terms, which you'll find quite liberal:

o you can run proprietary code within your slice without
      obligating you to show it to anyone else;

o any code produced by the consortium will be released
      with a BSD-like license; and

o you can contribute code to the consortium, but we're
not likely to accept unless we redistribute with a
      BSD-like license.
