Suppose one used an IEEE company id, is there any specific reason why one
couldn't just use addresses out of the VMware and Xen company id ranges?
Neither of them guarantee conflict free assignment.  Any way, as mentioned
previously, I am not fond of the idea.

I'd like to understand whether overloading the 2^15 bit special value in an
48 encapsulated in EUI-64 can work or not.  If not, why not?  If so, then
technically it would be a better solution not just for PlanetLab, but also
for anyone else using virtual machines on a physical host.  And if that is
the case, then I'd like to put together an Internet Draft / RFC for this
approach (assuming no one else has written about this).
