Short answer is :
make sure you use the build based on fedora 7
the kernel panic is still an issue on fc4 and fc6
and there's no complete build on f8 as of yet
(all this is about the 32bits version - I have no 64bits-ready build box)
My own tests run on vmware as well, so this should not be the issue

I will post a more complete update about the build later today on this
