[Planetlab-users] how to add nodes to a slice without
using webinterface

I had the same problem recently, but by following the instructions from:
http://jabber.services.planet-lab.org/php/software/pldeploy/HOWTO.php
everything worked fine in the end. Of course you need to make sure you
have created a .slices file in your home directory containing:
slice: my_own_slice
account: my_planetlab_web_account
password: my_planetlab_web_account_password
Below is the exact command I used to add a list of nodes to my slice
(note the use of a "user" role, and since the default is PI, maybe this
was why you were getting the authentication errors earlier):
foprea at florin:~>./plslice addnode --role user --node @my_hosts_filename
Hope this helps,
Florin
