slice..again..and again...and..again

Have you checked CoMon to see if the nodes appear to be alive?

Right now, there are about 750 nodes in the database, but only
about 60% (450-ish) are up and running. To get a quick idea of
what this means in practice, take a look at
http://summer.cs.princeton.edu/status/viz_nodes.html
Any site that's black is completely down, and yellow is partially
down. Red means that the site is down, but that they're using
resources on other machines.
